RIVIERA PALACE
Perched on the heights of Beausoleil, at the gateway to Monaco, the Riviera Palace is an architectural masterpiece that combines Belle Époque elegance with an exceptional panoramic view of the Mediterranean.
Discover the Riviera Palace in Beausoleil: a Belle Époque Treasure
Perched on the border of Monaco, the Riviera Palace is far more than an exceptional residence: it is an architectural gem listed as a Historic Monument since December 14, 1989.
A Palace Built for the Aristocracy of the Orient Express
Constructed between 1898 and 1902 (or 1903 according to some sources) based on plans by Grand Prix de Rome winner Georges-Paul Chedanne, the building was commissioned by the Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hôtels et Wagons-Lits. Intended to host an aristocratic clientele from around the world, this palace rivaled the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco in terms of grandeur and glamour.
Belle Époque Architecture with Italianate Accents
Its eclectic style blends Italian influences, Art Nouveau, and Neoclassical elements. The ochre façades bathe in the southern light, while bow windows, corbels, and finely crafted blue majolica balustrades add elegance. Built with concrete coated in stucco, the structure rests on a solid technical base, displaying refined visual harmony.
The Winter Garden: A Feat by Eiffel
Designed by the Gustave Eiffel company, this monumental winter garden spans 900 m² with a height of around 20 m. It combines a spectacular glass roof, custom rockwork, and lush subtropical vegetation. It once hosted lavish winter festivities for residents, in an atmosphere reminiscent of Parisian greenhouses.
A Unique Access: The Rack Railway
Originally, a rack railway connected the hotel directly to the Monte-Carlo Casino, providing convenient and prestigious access for guests and enhancing the Riviera Palace experience.
History and Transformation
During World War I, the hotel was requisitioned as "Auxiliary Hospital 85 bis" and hosted wounded and recovering soldiers—marking a turning point in its history. After the war, as elite guests dwindled, the building fell into disuse. Thanks to the Philippe Lamaro company, it was later converted into condominium apartments, ensuring its preservation to this day.
