Port of Nice: A New Era of Innovation and Charm
The ambitious Port of Nice renovation project: green spaces, a pedestrian promenade, a science pavilion, and a focus on local maritime heritage.

The Port of Nice renovation works are an ambitious project to transform the historic Port Lympia into a remarkable destination that highlights ecology, culture and the local economy. All the new developments are designed to make the port district a true place to live and a must-see in Nice.
Quai Infernet
The port's entrance gateway will see an existing car park removed and replaced with a large garden, restaurants and shops, all with an unobstructed view over the Mediterranean. This transformation will create a more pleasant and attractive environment for visitors.
The reinforcement of the port's seawall and the creation of a pedestrian promenade are also part of the project. The Quai Infernet will benefit from this transformation and will be extended to become an extension of the famous Promenade des Anglais. The reinforcement works will also create a positive-energy seawall unique in the Mediterranean. This infrastructure will produce energy through seawater loops, solar power and wave force. The clean energy will be used to power the new Port of Nice infrastructures and all docked boats. In a second phase, it could even power the entire port, dramatically reducing the environmental impact of this busy harbour area.
The Pavillon Méditerranée
An ambitious project aims to set up a unique cultural, technological and scientific centre in the area located beneath Quai Infernet, over a 5,000 m² surface. This pavilion is designed to embody the ecological and positive transition of the territory, with immersive and sensory exhibition spaces dedicated to the major environmental themes. Visitors will discover the richness of the Mediterranean environment by walking through these modular spaces hosting a wide range of digital and AI-driven exhibitions. They will also enjoy playful and educational areas and conference spaces to debate topics such as the ecological transition or environmental protection.
A coral conservation centre, called the coraïllthèque, will be created to protect and preserve this fragile Mediterranean species. This centre of scientific and technological culture dedicated to the Mediterranean ecosystem will be a modern and cutting-edge venue embodying the territory's ecological transition.
The creation of the Pavillon Méditerranée will be a major addition to the cultural and environmental landscape of Nice, offering a unique and immersive experience to visitors while raising awareness about the Mediterranean's environmental challenges. This centre will be a true symbol of the ecological transition and Nice's commitment to environmental protection.
The Quais Lunel
The Quais Lunel will be transformed into a pleasant pedestrian promenade, with a cycle path and a one-way road kept for safety. A cultural trail with art exhibitions will be created, offering an open-air museum for visitors. Antique dealers and second-hand sellers will be associated with this initiative to promote the art and history of the region.
A fish market (criée) will also be set up to honour the traditional professional fishing industry, favouring short supply chains and integrating local production into the metropolitan Territorial Food Plan.
Local fishermen will be able to sell their products directly to customers on stalls set up for the vente au cul du bateau (direct boat-side sale), promoting more sustainable and responsible Mediterranean fishing. The installation of AMAP (community-supported agriculture) will also be encouraged, strengthening the local economy and the promotion of organic farming.
Place Ile-de-Beauté
The Place Ile-de-Beauté will become a true cool-island with the creation of more than 1,150 m² of vegetation and the planting of 110 trees. The wide shaded pedestrian spaces will allow the installation of terraces and quality urban furniture, creating a pleasant living setting for residents and visitors.
The reorganisation of rue Fodéré as a green corridor with trees, planters and wide pavements will reinforce the greening of the urban space and improve air quality. The complete redevelopment of Place Ile-de-Beauté will create a reference space for urban greening and reinforce the neighbourhood's appeal.
Quai Deux Emmanuels
The enhancement of the historical heritage will also be put forward on Quai Deux Emmanuels. Urban and landscape redevelopment works will be initiated to create higher-quality pedestrian paths with wider pavements. Large Mediterranean trees will be planted to provide a cool-island and enhance the existing restaurants. Traffic will be kept up to rue du Lazaret and boulevard Stalingrad to allow better access to the quay and ease movement. These works will showcase the historical heritage of the quay by preserving and highlighting the architectural and cultural elements that make the place's identity.
Quai Entrecasteaux
Quai Entrecasteaux will be transformed into a pedestrian space, allowing the exceptional setting to be enjoyed. A Cale des Pointus (slipway for traditional fishing boats), an essential element of Nice's heritage, will be created to showcase the 80 Pointus and their history. The Mouette association, custodian of these traditions and ancestral know-how, will be relocated to a building with a shaded terrace and a 100 m² room, where it will be able to develop educational activities. This project will therefore preserve and showcase the maritime and cultural heritage of Nice.
All these new developments at the Port of Nice are a real opportunity to develop a sustainable, welcoming and modern harbour area, while protecting the environment and offering a unique experience to all visitors.
