Nice faces the sea along a seafront lined with beaches for almost seven kilometres. Head west for Carras beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Nice.

Quieter than those of the city centre, it borders a residential area rather than a tourist strip. You will find a long pebble bank and a lifeguard post in season, along with facilities for visitors with reduced mobility and a handful of seafront restaurants.

Where is Carras beach located?

Carras beach lies west of Nice city centre, close to the airport, at the level of the Carras district, between Ferber and California and a short walk from Caucade. It is one of the longest stretches of shoreline in the city, and the furthest west.

Prepare for your day at Carras beach

Carras beach is a public beach covered with pebbles, more than 350 metres long. A water sports centre rents out jet skis here. There is also a beach volleyball court on a sandy patch, and a small harbour used mainly for diving and swimming. The seafront path alongside it makes for a pleasant walk with wide views over the bay.

Is Carras beach supervised?

Yes, during the bathing season. Carras is in fact one of the few sites in Nice where supervision runs until mid-September, when most posts close at the end of August. The beach is supervised from 9am to 6.30pm in July and August, then from 9am to 6pm in September. It also has an access route for people with reduced mobility. Ramps, reserved parking spaces, accessible showers and toilets have been installed, and a path leads down to the water. Amphibious chairs, pool noodles, life jackets and parasols are available on site.

Are dogs allowed on Carras beach?

Yes. The Carras area is one of only two places in Nice where the City allows dogs on the sand. Access is permitted all year round at La Lanterne beach, just behind the port of Carras at 400 Promenade des Anglais, and at Lenval beach. Dogs must be kept on a lead, a rule that applies throughout the urban area.

Access to Carras beach

Carras beach is easy to reach. You can drive there, with free parking near the Lanterne site and paid parking close by. Several bus routes serve the beach, stopping at “Carras / Promenade”.

Where to eat near Carras beach?

Places to eat fall into two groups. On the sea side, the private beaches and beach huts along the Promenade des Anglais serve lunch through the season, between the port of Carras and Magnan. On the town side, the food shops of boulevard René Cassin and avenue de la Californie let you pick up something to eat on the pebbles.

Live or stay near Carras beach

The Carras beach area owes much of its appeal to how well it is served. Tramway line 2 runs through it, with stops at Carras, Ferber and Magnan, and reaches the centre without a car. The airport sits a little further west along the same seafront. Housing is varied, from the large 1970s developments to small estates and the old Belle Époque villas of the seafront. You will find everyday amenities here, and residents are working to bring back a village feel.
